The software delivers what it promises and it does it while ensuring that users are not. Thanks Topaz for providing this to us Image Pack users for free, but this AI tool needs to be used with great care and the loss of control is a problem for me. Topaz Sharpen AI is yet another no-nonsense product from Topaz Labs. I am 50/50 on using LRC (Enhance) or Gigapixel for resizing/enlarging, which I perform early in my process once in LRC - and never choose to use face recovery (I simply do not like what this does) or apply other settings this early in the workflow. I am currently in the habit to run almost all the images I produce through Topaz DeNoise AI and on rare occasions sharpening as well. I then export as 16-Bit Profoto RGB TIF or DNG (PR2), which I import into LRC where I work on them in more detail. Instead of one or a couple of sliders, Topaz Sharpen AI is comprised of a suite of tools dedicated to just one task: sharpening.

I tried and will NEVER use it on RAW files - I use the Phocus and Capture One for the raw conversion, correction and initial adjustment of images taken with Hasselblad and Phase One bodies AND DxO Pure Raw 2 to convert everything else (primarily Nikon Z9) using the Deep Prime engine. Topaz Sharpen AI is for professional photographers and enthusiasts alike who need sharpening power that even advanced photo editing software like Photoshop can’t provide. Sometimes one gets too much AI and loose control. I had to knock back sharpening recommendation. I would like to understand Topaz's guidance on when they believe Enhance photo and face recovery tools should be used and when they should not be enabled. In this Topaz Photo AI vs Sharpen AI review I will be ignoring the price for now as Topaz Photo AI is a nearly twice the price of Topaz Sharpen AI but Topaz Photo AI also includes a slimmed down version of Gigapixel AI and DeNoise AI. I processed one large image today (100mp resolution) and was appalled by the impact enhance photo had on it. I did not and still do not like the face recovery tool at all AND I believe the Enhance Photo option is outright dangerous. This morning I updated from the previous version of Photo AI (I missed 9 updates) and lots of improvements seem to have been made.
If I crop in and need more pixels than I resize with GigaPixel AI before using either of the other modules. I previously used the Beta version and almost immediately went back to my process of running Topaz DeNoise AI first and only using Sharpening AI when there were issues in the image where perhaps further AI sharpening could help.
